Welcome to the world of Musicianship.
Are you keen to bring more music into your life and/or your child’s life – but you don’t know where to start? You do know that you and your child enjoy music but how can you access it? How do you learn about music and how to be a musician?
I can help you become a musician.
Have you ever wondered why some people seem so talented? Maybe words like “gifted” or “lucky” or “they’re just much better than me” enter your mind when you think of talented people.
CONTROVERSIAL OPINION INCOMING…
…I don’t really believe in talent! There, I’ve said it!
I have been listening to music for as long as I can remember, singing on my mother’s knee, listening to the radio and to recorded music, going to live performances, playing music, singing with others, etc..
In other words, music has been an active part of my life and that is why I am a more experienced and confident user and maker of music than the majority of people. But whilst it IS all about neuroscience, it is certainly not rocket science. To be a musical person who understands how music works, you have to listen to music, think musically (audition) and behave musically (make music – either original music or other people’s music). In other words, you just have to do it.
I can’t promise to turn you into a concert pianist or a rock star! I can’t promise to make you into the next Mozart or Oscar Peterson. But I can turn your mind into a musical mind, turn your body into a musical body and I can set you off on your own particular path to music achievement. And if you are younger than 9 – 11 years old, I can stimulate your music aptitude too (I can’t do that after 9-11 years for anyone on the planet, because this is the age when humans’ music aptitude stabilises for life).
I am Trish Cummings and I teach musicianship, piano and baby signing in South East London, UK. I play the piano, the flute, the guitar, the recorder, the melodica, the kazoo and many other instruments and I would LOVE to help you and your child develop a passion for music too!
I am an enthusiastic teacher who is driven to help all of my students to develop their skills so that they too can derive a lifetime of joy from music, communication and relationships with other humans.
I am a firm believer in keeping myself as up to date and well trained as possible, so I am an active, current member of the British KodΓ‘ly Academy, the Gordon Institute for Music Learning, the Incorporated Society of Musicians, The Curious Piano Teachers and TopMusic.
In my spare time? I sing. I can’t get enough singing. I am a member and Trustee of the South London Singers andof the church choir at St John’s, Catford π And I practise the piano and study music and musicianship.
Watch this lovely video by Dr Cynthia Taggart about Empowering Young Children Musically.βIt explains perfectly why I do what I do π
